22q11 Deletion Syndrome

Ana Morales, MS:

Ana Morales is a 2001 genetic counseling graduate from Brandeis University. Before her training as a genetic counselor, Ana majored in Biology at the University of Puerto Rico, earning a BS degree in 1998. Ana has 5 years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetics research.

Ana now coordinates the genetic research of Alan H. Beggs, PhD, at Boston Children's Hospital. The main goals of Dr. Beggs’ research are to study the basic biology of skeletal muscles and to use this information to understand the genes and proteins involved in the cause of neuromuscular disorders.

As a Beggs' lab member, Ana’s role is to act as a liaison between the laboratory and research participants/referring clinicians. She uses her genetic counseling skills to identify and recruit study participants, design recruitment materials, as well as to respond to inquiries about inheritance patterns, research studies, and general information about the genetics of muscle disease. She also reports recent research developments and coordinates follow up studies with referring physicians and commercial laboratories. In addition, Ana monitors legal and ethical issues concerning genetic research.
